French Antique Source Glass and Basket
This antique French glass with its basket is from the curative source Vittel. Vital is in the department of Alsace, east of Paris. The glass has a handle which is unusual. It measures 4" high x 3" across no chips or cracks, its basket container with latch and leather strap is also in perfect antique condition.
Mineral water from the source at Vittel has been bottled and made available for curative purposes since 1854. (See last photo) The waters are thought to heal all manner of illness. The 'patient' / customer would collect the water (there are markings on the side of the glass to let you know how much water you've collected) and then drink it over the course of the day. Glasses with their baskets like this are rare and hard to find. This is a truly lovely piece. 2090 Ref.
