What a wonderful and special antique portable writing desk! This charming antique travel desk circa the early 1900s has all the necessary compartments to maintain a business and personal correspondence. The original key opens the lock to reveal five cordovan color leather lined compartments. On the upper level they are divided in half providing four slots for papers and stationary etc.  Attached to the third and lowest level compartment which runs the full width of this fine little desk is a leather detailed slot embossed in gold with the word ‘postcards’, to that is attached two little places to hold stamps ( please look at photo #8 ). Looking just in front of the lower compartments reveals a furthered fitted interior with a pen cove, under which a small storage space is accessed it is flanked by a space to the right for an ink well (missing) The and lock and key on this correspondence case work perfectly. When opened if you leave the key in place it serves to supports the writing surface in a level position, if the key is removed the writing surface becomes a slope. There is a metal shield on the top ready to engrave a name or initials on.
This antique writing box is a gem, the materials and craftsmanship is exceptional and the shape is extremely unusual. The Leather blotter writing surface wore out or has been removedt. It can be easily replaced, one company I can think of where you can find the leather piece is Van Dykes Restorers.

Total Box Width: 9-3/4”
Depth at top: 3-1/4”
Depth at bottom: 5”
