Antique European Linen Hemp Straw Bed Mattress, Vintage French Farmhouse Daybed Mattress
This is an old ‘Straw Bed’ cover and what a fabulous find it was. Back in the day it would have been stuffed with fresh straw making a wonderful place to offer a traveler to sleep or use for oneself. It could easily be used for a daybed mattress or cover. There are two openings to push in the fresh straw, of course you can sew them up and make an opening at the top. This textile is an exquisite heavy weight linen hemp, a very durable piece. It weighs approximately 5 lbs. You would have yards and yards of gorgeous upholstery fabric if you were to deconstruct it. The color is lovely ecru and the texture sublime. I have washed it. Stuffed with a quilt it would make a great place to throw down under a big tree and enjoy the day. It will last a life time or two with the possibility to become a cherished family treasure handed down through generations. -
